Re: Which of these 2 mics would you use for vocals, and why
I'll be the first to say that specs on mics mean squat.....it's about how they sound, ya know? Well, if you look at the complete specs (and you know what you are looking at), specs can tell you quite a bit. Unfortunately, you rarely see complete specs for a mic published for the public. Most of the...

Re: Which of these 2 mics would you use for vocals, and why
I thought Bono used an SM58 in the control room for tracking, with the mix played loudly. I also thought that it was the '58 that's been used frequently of late by some artists, not the '57. Snare and guitar amp would be another story of course, with King '57 being, well, King Utility, IMHO. ... We...

Re: I'm lost here, ultralite tech advice anyone?
... So I tried aux outs to bbe ins, bbe ins to insert l&r, and I get nothing, (unless I short the plug, but then I'm in mono). ... There's something wrong here. You have to choose between using the BBE as a Send fed effect or as an Insert fed effect. You can only feed each of his Inputs in one ...

Ableton in the computer, computer connected to Ultralite.
Utralite's outputs connected to A&H line inputs.
A&H Aux Sends connected to BBE's inputs.
BBE's outputs connected to A&H's Send returns.
A&H group outs connected to Ultralite's inputs.
Is this it?

Re: Which of these 2 mics would you use for vocals, and why
Several of Madonna's vocal tracks in «Bedtime Stories" were recorded with a SM57, in the control room. Bob Marley did record vocals with SM57 quite often. Bono has several of his vocals recorded with SM57, and so does U2's producer Daniel Lanois in his solo albums. Did you try it with vocals? P...

Re: should i compress vocals when tracking
Whenever people talk about compressing vocals and how subtle it should/must be, how transparent, how delicate a balance should be obtained, how little compression should be used... whenever people talk about these things one album always comes to mind as one of my favourite albums of all time: Danie...

Also, the outside windows would be blocked by B&W screens with live images of wha'ts outside. Just for the sake of being "cool" and "hi tech". nah, thats not cool and hi tech, cool and hi tech is B&W screens streaming live images of what you wish was going on outside. so...

Re: E-verb, Altiverb, Au verb How do you evaluate your reverb?
My favorite (read "most often used") Reverb is a VST TC Native Reverb Plus. Cheap. About 8 or 9 years old. I bought Waves IR1 recently, about two years ago. Expensive. Much better than the TC Native but i still prefer using the TC. Don't know why. Why do i say the Waves IR1 is better than ...

Re: recording drums using 3 mics
Years ago I worked for a remote truck and had the chance to record Joan Armatrading for a live album called Stepping Out. Glynn Johns was the producer/engineer. He used 3 mic’s, 2 87’s over head and a kick mic. I don’t remember the model. The overheads where placed at about 10 o’clock and 4 o’clock...

One on either side of the control room window, blocking the window, and each with a live image from the opposite side.

Re: Alesis Monitor One Mk2 repair
If you dismantle the speaker you'll void warranty. When you say that you have swapped tweeters and still there was no sound, do you mean from the same tweeter or from the same monitor? If it's a crossover problem, yes, it can be anything from a condenser to a coil, but, burnt tweeter coils can have ...

i hate to be the rich kid, but i have an apple 30" cinema... new aluminium one. i cant hear anything... That's an awesome screen! If it wouldn't cover up my studio's control room window i would LOVE a Beovision 5 from Bang & Olufsen. Don't know if they're noisy, though, but that thing is w...
