Agreed 100%

As for the 3 Mic technique (a la Glyn Johns) i've tried on occasion to add some spot mics, just to be safe, and ended up by not using them. Ever.

Re: Mastering newbie needs help preparing CDR master

... One other thing: is the choice of media still important? What brands of CDs do you guys use? Word used to be that Taiyo Uden (sp?) was the brand of choice. I've read that too, but since there are some 90 countries in the world where you can't find a single TY CDR, and since everyone makes nice ...

Re: Any PC-based apps that read Apple Loops??

Try sdtwowav . It recognizes sd2 Mac files, allows for bit flipping, doesn't need MacDrive installed, recognizes and converts "raw" files to BWF Broadcast Wave files (sometimes Mac's sound files are recognized by a PC as RAW files). It recognizes ProTools region data and converts it to BWF...

Re: Mastering newbie needs help preparing CDR master

It's what HCMarkus said. Redithering adds noise. Wether or not it'll be heard depends on your music, the listeners ears and the system where it'll be heard. Since you'll do it yourself anyway i suggest you use Izotope's Ozone for redithering. It's got very useful "digital black" filters an...

Re: Mastering newbie needs help preparing CDR master

Better use a Mastering Studio. Doing it with Jam and Toast in a homecomputer CD drive won't guarantee an error free CD Master. You should go back to the mastering engineer who did the final master, the one with the volume and tonal character you wanted, and ask him to correct whatever he forgot to d...

Re: REAMPING

Yeah, Using a DI backwards really does NOT work properly for a couple of reasons. You will get sound - but it won't be good. In fact, you are probably better off just using an appropriate connector adapter than using a DI backwards.... which results in poor s/n performance - and crappo sound. Take ...

Re: REAMPING

I would like to record a guitar directly into logic, and then at a later time send that signal out and reamp it through an amp. I have a Motu 896HD and I was wondering if I need a DI box as well? Or can I just send the signal into the MOTU and that gain stage will be enough? ALSO if I do send it in...

Re: Any stereo spreaders?

I'll normally just do it manually. Using the Lauridsen pseudo-stereo method. Easy and very configurable. Using combfiltering? That's a very "dangerous" Stereo, no? Not at all! In fact, I believe it's more safe than using those plug-ins because you can enter exactly the delays you need to ...

Re: Any stereo spreaders?

Are you talking about "widening" an existing stereo track, or "stereo-izing" a mono track? They are two different things. ... The only "Pseudo-stereo" (mono-to-stereo plug-in) I know of is in PSP's "StereoPack". I'm sure there are others - Correct. Stereo Enh...

Re: Any stereo spreaders?

I'm not sure i understand what you mean with "stereo spreader" but i'll assume these two:

. PSP Audioware's "PSP Pseudo Stereo"
. MDA Stereo (free)

These work for me whenever i want to work on a track's Stereo width or balance.

Re: UltraLite MK3 record from mixer

The problem is not the cable. Its the signal level the cable carries. A Phono Output from a record-player carries a signal much lower than normal line-level. Besides it's equalised differently (google for "riaa equalisation curve") Hi-Fi equipment uses RCA plugs for both Line level signals...

Re: Fixing un-true bass response

NS10M Pro are vertical mounted NS10s. The "Studio" model is horizontal. It doesn't make a difference and has more to do with how good it sounds in either position regarding to the listeners head. And both models sound the same in both positions. The difference is in the logo. The tweeters ...

Re: Fixing un-true bass response

The Tannoys seem to be too spaced apart. Also, i don't like to see those cabinets behind the speakers. Did you check your bass response without'em? Please do. Some absorptive material in the wall behind the speakers might be nice as well. I suggest you place the Tannoys closer to the center, more to...

Re: Fixing un-true bass response

Detecting monitoring problems in your setup from a drawing or a pic, abd based on gear list is going to be fun. Besides, Amplifiers also affect sound. If your mixes translate with too much low frequencies in other systems, you have to improve LF response in your system. Borrow a sub-box (subwoofer) ...
